MARVEL ZOMBIES Will Reportedly Feature A New Moon Knight...But It Won't Be Who You're Expecting!

Marvel Zombies was first announced at 2022's San Diego Comic-Con as part of Marvel Studios' "Marvel Animation" slate reveal. Very little has been revealed since then, and while the show is still on the way, we have no idea if it will be released this year or in 2025.

In the meantime, a very intriguing new rumour is doing the rounds which claims Moon Knight will have a role in the Disney+ series.

Scooper @CanWeGetToast shared the news, revealing that Marvel Zombies will see a new character become the Fist of Khonshu. There's currently no word on whether an existing hero or villain will inherit the mantle or if an original creation is replacing Marc Spector; either way, we're shocked to learn Oscar Isaac isn't returning as Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jake Lockley.

The actor previously lent his voice to Poe Dameron in the Star Wars Resistance TV series so he would surely be willing. Either way, we wouldn't necessarily take this as any sort of indication the actor won't eventually return as the MCU's Moon Knight. There could, after all, be a compelling story reason for not including Marc in this follow-up to the What If...? episode "What If... Zombies?!"

Remember, this story takes place in a post-apocalyptic reality so a hero like Moon Knight falling to the zombie plague and later being replaced makes sense. With any luck, this means we'll also see more of Khonshu.

"That's going to be crazy," What If...? director and producer Bryan Andrews recently said of Marvel Zombies"Yeah, [it's] full TV-MA. It's spawning off of what was done on Episode [105]. The notion was, there's some inspiration from the comic, the fact that they're zombies, but we're not doing the comic, like, in any stretch."

"We have our own take on it, and a lot of that stuff has been set up by our talented [What If...?] writers early on, so, just taking that and... exploring that mythology in that episode a bit more. So, yeah, it's crazy."

The animated series reimagines the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge.

In the comic books, Marvel Zombies started as a five-issue limited series first published in 2005. The series was written by Robert Kirkman (who would later create The Walking Dead) with art by Sean Phillips and covers by Arthur Suydam.

The story was set in an alternate universe where the world's superhero population has been infected with a virus which turned them into zombies. The series was spun out of a story arc in the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four, where the zombie Reed Richards tricked his Ultimate counterpart into opening a portal to the zombie universe only for the latter to prevent the former from ever coming to his universe.

Stay tuned for more on Marvel Zombies as we have it.
