There's a huge amount of excitement for Invincible season 2, and the show's return has been a long time coming. While the Atom Eve special released on Prime Video during Comic-Con weekend was welcomed, the main series has been missing from our screens since 2021.

Invincible's November debut was confirmed last month but many fans were disappointed to learn the 8-episode season would be split in two. The second half won't hit our screens until early 2024, and we now have an explanation for this unique release schedule directly from creator Robert Kirkman.

"It's a little bit of the production process just because ramping things up has taken a lot longer than we thought," he explained in an interview with Collider. "But also this is something that we've done with every season of The Walking Dead, and I think narratively, it's kind of cool to have that pause to digest what you've just experienced. And when you see Episode 4 of Season 2, you may need a break."

"It's a big episode. It's definitely a mid-season finale kind of episode. And with everything going on in that time of year with Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and a lot of family time, I think a lot of shows get lost in the shuffle there, and so I think it's good to take a pause. And narratively, it's gonna make things hit a little bit harder. And people will know what I'm talking about when the season launches."

It sounds like we should gear up for another brutal batch of episodes, and we can't wait to see what happens that's bad enough for Invincible's creative team to feel viewers will need to take a step back and catch their breath!

Based on the groundbreaking comic book by Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age - except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet.

Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in season one, Invincible season 2 will pick up with Mark as he struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear - that he might become his father without even knowing it.

The series stars Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons.

Invincible returns to Prime Video on November 3.

If they are introducing Anissa in the series, I think I know what could be "bad enough."
