I Am Groot arrived on Disney+ last summer, and the memorable series of shorts received a great response from fans. Created using photorealistic CG, the five episodes followed this adorable sentient tree on a series of hilarious and heartwarming misadventures.
At the time, it was revealed another five instalments had been made, and The Cosmic Circus just shared a long-awaited update about when we're likely to see them.
According to the site, the current plan is for I Am Groot season 2 to return to Disney+ this September. That places it right between Secret Invasion and Loki and, if we had to hazard a guess, the whole season will probably be released in one go on the streamer.
As you might expect, Guardians of the Galaxy star Vin Diesel returns to lend his voice to Groot, but there's going to be another big surprise in store for MCU fans.
It's said that it will be here we see Jeffrey Wright reprise his role as What If...?'s Uatu the Watcher!
How Marvel Studios plans to handle this cameo remains to be seen. As the CG used in I Am Groot is so realistic, we're either getting our first look at Wright's Watcher in "live-action" or will see him obscured in the cosmos similar to What If...?'s opening sequence.
Either way, this is exciting and we're very intrigued to learn what could possibly lead to The Watcher crossing paths with Baby Groot. Uatu's people actually made their MCU debut in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 alongside Stan "The Man" Lee, so perhaps we're getting a throwback to that?
For now, we'll have to wait and see, but the last half of 2023 promises to be exciting for MCU fans. The Marvels is heading to theaters in November, while all episodes of Echo are set to premiere on Disney+ in one go that same month.
Are you looking forward to more I Am Groot?
