Netflix - via SFFGazette.com - has shared four awesome new stills from Avatar: The Last Airbender, revealing our first look at the show's leads: Water Tribe siblings Katara (Kiawentiio) and Sokka (Ian Ousley), Fire Nation Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), and title character Airbender Aang (Gordon Cormier).
Given how accurate each of their appearances is compared to the characters from the beloved animated series, we're sure many of you will be very happy with the direction this live-action reboot is heading in.
The streaming service has also dropped a brief teaser - sadly lacking any actual footage from the series - which puts the spotlight on Water, Earth, Fire and Air, as the emblem of each nation is showcased one after the other.
Since first being announced, the series has assembled a massive cast which also includes Elizabeth Yu (Azula), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Iroh), Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai), Maria Zhang (Suki), Tamlyn Tomita (Yukari), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar Kyoshi), and Casey Camp-Horinek (Gran Gran).
Last September, we also learned that Prey star Amber Midthunder and Star Trek legend George Takei are among those to have signed up to star in the series.
Based on the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, this take on Avatar: The Last Airbender has been described by showrunner Albert Kim as "a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people. Not just in a cartoon, but in a world that truly exists, very similar to the one we live in."
The video below also confirms that Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender will premiere in 2024.
