Since Marvel Studios and Disney have become synonymous, characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and The Hulk have become household names even for children growing up today. Now Disney is using the lens of the latter to drive a story featuring a Hulk-like child, but with a twist.
Turning Red is the newest film on the docket from Disney and Pixar, and it is set for a theatrical release in 2022. The movie focuses on a young girl who can't control her emotions, and when she gets too excited, she, for a lack of a better term, "hulks out."
The biggest difference here is that Turning Red follows the story of a young girl in an animated medium, so it isn't a tale of an enormous green rage monster. Instead, the focal character turns into a huge fluffy panda when she loses control, as depicted in the new poster below.
We shared some concept art for the film last month, but this poster and the new trailer below provide much more context for where this story is headed. So be sure to check out the trailer for yourself, and as always, sound off with your thoughts in the usual spot!
Growing up is a beast. Check out the new trailer for the upcoming all-new original feature film “Turning Red” from Pixar Animation Studios’ director Domee Shi, who won an Oscar® for her 2018 short film, “Bao.” Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old who suddenly “poofs” into a giant red panda when she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS). Sandra Oh voices Mei Lee’s protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter—an unfortunate reality for the teenager.
Directed by Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins, Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red releases March 11th, 2022.
