INVINCIBLE Creator Says The Gap Between Season 2 And 3 Won't Be As Long As Gap Since Season 1

It's now been more than 2 years since Invincible premiered on Prime Video, but where is season 2? While we still wait for news about that, creator Robert Kirkman has made a big promise about season 3...

The first season of Invincible premiered on Prime Video on March 25, 2021, meaning it's now been over 2 years since we first got to spend time with the animated Mark Grayson.

Based on Robert Kirkman's comic book of the same name, the show was a hit with critics and fans alike and it didn't take at all long for Amazon to announce plans for a second and third season. We've been waiting on the former for a long time, but with still no news on an official season 2 premiere date, fans are becoming increasingly impatient.

During a recent interview with Collider, Kirkman confirmed that, regardless of when season 2 debuts (and we do expect it sometime in late 2023), the gap between that and season 3 is likely to be considerably shorter.

"I can't say [how far we are on season 3's development]. Far enough along that there won't be a similar gap between Season 2 and Season 3," he confirmed. "This is the pain. This area right now is the pain for Invincible fans. So once we're through this, once Season 2 comes out, hopefully, it should be smooth sailing from there on."

"There won't be these big, large gaps, theoretically," Kirkman concluded before going on to add that he's recently seen "full animation," with music now being added to those scenes.

There is a multitude of reasons why Invincible season 2 has taken so long, with the pandemic being somewhere near the top of the list. Kirkman has also faced various legal issues, including a lawsuit from colourist William Crabtree who claims to be Invincible's co-creator.

"Balls to the wall action combined with a stellar voice cast make Invincible a must-watch new animated series," we said in our season 1 review back in 2021, "even if comic book fans will find much of what plays out on screen to be somewhat familiar."
