Since premiering in 1999, Spongebob Squarepants has made its mark on the animation medium in a serious way. The series has spawned countless memes with humor appealing to fans in multiple generations, providing the franchise with an immense amount of free marketing.
Despite that, Spongebob Squarepants has no real need for an intense marketing campaign. For the past 18 years, the show has held the title of number-one animated series on TV, and it doesn't look like it will be slowing down anytime soon.
Two spin-off series are already developed for the Spongebob Squarepants animated universe. One is a prequel titled Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years chronicling the early life of the beloved and iconic titular character, while the other is a spin-off focusing on SpongeBob's best buddy, the Patrick Star Show.
It looks like the burgeoning franchise has no plans to slow down anytime soon, with Deadline now reporting that a 52 episode order across all three shows has been placed. This will include a Season 1 back-order and a Season 2 renewal of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years.
13 additional episodes to Season 1 of the Patrick Star Show, which debuted in July to an outstanding reception, have also been ordered. But, perhaps most importantly, 13 more episodes were ordered of the mainline series, SpongeBob Squarepants, with Season 13.
What do you guys think of this development? Do you like Patrick Star Show or Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years better? Regardless of your take, be sure to share it in the usual spot!
SpongeBob Squarepants and Patrick Star Show air on Nickelodeon, with Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years streaming on Paramount+.
