Blues Clues is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and while the Nick Jr. show is just as popular as ever, kids today associate it more with new-ish host Josh. But for us older folks, the millennials who grew up with it, we will always fondly remember Steve.
In 2002, after six years and 100 episodes, Steve Burns announced his departure from the show. In the series, it was explained that Steve was heading off to college. He introduced his younger brother Joe and hopped on a bus out of town. Despite the magnitude of Steve's departure, the series never spent much time further elaborating on the depressing realization that we all grow older and things change as a result.
Well, today, Steve returned, and he had a heartfelt message to all of us original fans. The video feels surprisingly authentic as if he's speaking directly from his heart. Everything he says feels genuine and real, from his abrupt departure to his graduating with student loans — something all millennials can relate to. Steve also touches on getting a job and starting a family and acknowledges that it can be hard. And then he admits that he couldn't have done any of it without our help.
It's all incredibly emotional, and I don't think a single fan who grew up with Blues Clues will be able to watch it without getting a little teary-eyed. So grab some tissues and check out Steve's message to you.
Nothing against Joe or Josh, but nothing can compare to Steve and the joy he brought to millions of children who tuned in each episode. Blues Clues was one of the most successful and critically acclaimed preschool television series of all time, and Steve was a huge part of its success.
