Netflix has released a batch of photos from the upcoming Nickelodeon animated film Rise of the Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles: The Movie. The movie is set to arrive on the streaming service on August 5 and we've got our first look at some brand new stills.

Directed by Ant Ward and Andy Suriano, Rise of the Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles: The Movie is a continuation of the TV series. It follows Leonardo's rise as a leader of the turtles to help save the world from the Krang. Here's the official synopsis:

In Nickelodeon’s Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, the Ninja Turtles are faced with their greatest challenge yet when a mysterious stranger arrives from the future with a dire warning. Leo is forced to rise and lead his brothers, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey in a fight to save the world from a terrifying alien species…the Krang!

Rise of the Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles: The Movie stars Ben Schwartz (the voice of Sonic in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie adaptation) as Leonardo, Omar Benson Miller as Raphael, Brandon Mychal Smith as Michelangelo, Josh Brener as Donatello, Kat Graham as April O'Neil, and Eric Bauza as Splinter. Haley Joel Osment, the voice of Buzzsaw in Dragons: The NIne Realms, has also been cast in an undisclosed role.

The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2D animated series ran for a total of two seasons (39 episodes) and aired on Nickelodeon from July 2018 to August 2020. In the first season, the turtles battled the evil alchemist Baron Draxum and the dangerous Foot Clan who sought to resurrect the Shredder. In the second season, the brothers faced an assortment of enemies, the most notable being Shredder.

The series was nominated for numerous awards including "Favorite Cartoon" at the Kids' Choice Awards and "Outstanding Children's Animated Series" at the Daytime Emmy Awards. The series holds a favorable 77% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles: The Movie will premiere on Netflix on August 5, 2022. It's part of the streaming service's massive "Family Summer" event in which new films and series will debut each week to help kids and families stay cool from the summer heat. Other movies and series set to debut this summer on Netflix include My Little Pony: Make Your MarkJurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Season 5, The Cuphead Show!Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, and many more.
