Netflix is back with a sequel to Masters of the Universe: Revelation in the form of Masters of the Universe: Revolution. The latest take on He-Man will see the champion of Grayskull testing his might against a tech-based Skeletor.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation premiered on Netflix in July 2021 and has released 10 episodes to date. The series was conceived by Kevin Smith as a continuation of the 1983 animated He-Man cartoon from Filmation.
Revelation was actually released in two parts, with Part 2's 5-episode run released in November 2021. And it was Part 2 in particular, that drew the ire of He-Man fans who accused Kevin Smith of having a "woke agenda" and destroying the He-Man mythos by making Teela the true hero of the story.
Smith was very outspoken in his defense of the show, telling Variety at the time, "You really [frick]ing think Mattel Television, who hired me and paid me money, wants to do a [frick]ing Masters of the Universe show without He-Man? Grow the [frick] up, man." This response only invited more attacks from He-Man on YouTube and social media.
Smith references this tumultuous period in the show's history in the Tweet below with his "slings" and "arrows" remark.
Hopefully, the continuation of the show, with a slightly revamped title proves to have a better connection with longtime fans.
The official synopsis for the series reads, "It’s technology versus magic when He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and something more in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVOLUTION – the new epic chapter in the battle for Castle Grayskull! The newly mechanized Skeletor, armed with the might of Motherboard, attacks the heart of Eternia while Prince Adam grapples with a new responsibility and what that means for him as He-Man! Adam is forced to choose between the scepter or the sword, and a life as either the King or the Champion! Meanwhile, the new Sorceress Teela searches for the secret of Snake Magic in the mists of Darksmoke to rebuild a magic realm and help He-Man hold off the greatest threat Eternia has ever faced: the return of the despot Hordak, the ruthless leader of the Horde Empire!"
