Although there have been many adaptations of of Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio, Disney's animated musical is probably the most well-known. But in the first teaser for Guillermo Del Toro's version, Ewan McGregor, as the voice of Cricket, assures us that this is unlike any version of the story we've seen yet.
"I want to tell you a story," McGregor says, setting himself up as the narrator for the film. "It's a story you may think you know, but you don't."
McGregor is the voice of Sebastian J. Cricket, who lived in the heart of the wooden boy. He's joined by an all-star cast that includes David Bradley as Geppetto and Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. Rounding out the cast is Finn Wolfhard, Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, and Academy Award winners Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton.
Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio is a reimagining of the classic Italian tale in stop-motion. It's a musical adventure that follows the mischievous Pinocchio "in his pursuit of a place in the world."
The teaser doesn't offer much else, unfortunately. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio is set to arrive on Netflix this December. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long before we get a proper trailer.
