CHICKEN RUN Sequel Heading To Netflix In 2023 With Zachary Levi Replacing Mel Gibson As Rocky

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the long-awaited sequel to Dreamworks' stop-motion animated film, will arrive on Netflix in 2023. Check out the new and returning voice actors for the upcoming film.

We've known about the Chicken Run sequel for a while now, but details for the highly anticipated project have finally started to come to light. The official title for the sequel will be called Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and it's set to land on Netflix in 2023.

Despite it featuring the same characters as the original film, many of the original voice actors have been replaced. Zachary Levi (Shazam, Alvin and the Chipmunks) will be replacing Mel Gibson as Rocky, the heroic rooster, while Thandiwe Newton (Westworld) will be take over from Julia Sawalha as Ginger, the intelligent hen and leader of the chickens on Tweedy's Farm.

Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) will voice Rocky and Ginger's daughter, Molly. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast is rounded out by a mix of British stars. Returning from the original film are Jane Horroks as Babs, Imelda Staunton as Bunty, and Lynn Ferguson as Mac. They are joined by new additions Josie Sedgwick-Davies (Hound & the Rabbit) as Frizzle, David Bradley (Harry Potter) as Fowler, Romesh Ranganathan (Cinderella) as Nick, Daniel Mays (Good Omens) as Fetcher and Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) as Dr. Fry.

Here's the official synopsis for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget:

“Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!”

The original Chicken Run was released all the way back in 2000. It was Dreamworks' 4th full-length animated feature and Aardman Animations first feature-length film. Sam Fell (Flushed Away, The Tale of Despereaux) will step into the directors chair with a script by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell and Rachel Tunnard.
