Chicken Run is a stop-motion animated film which debuted back in 2000. It's pretty iconic and renowned if not only for being one of Aardman Animations' earliest franchises. They're the stop-motion animation studio responsible for the likes of
Wallace and Gromit,
Shaun the Sheep, and many others.
Following the debut of
Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon, Aardman Animations announced that they're beginning pre-production on a sequel to
Chicken Run. Shortly after the announcement, Aardman co-director Will Beecher said the following about the
Chicken Run sequel during an interview with
Flickering Myth.
“Well all I can tell you is that there were a lot of chickens being made towards the end of our film. We have a model-making team and, at one point, it was just full of sheep, but slowly over the course of the following weeks it became overrun with chickens. So there is definitely an intention there and it was announced they are in pre-production on a sequel.”
The first
Chicken Run film focused on a gang of the titular birds as they plotted a way to escape from their coop. Ginger, Rocky, Fetcher, Babs, Tweedy, and more attempt to figure out how to fly whilst avoiding the nefarious Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy.
“It’s the first film I ever worked on at Aardman. It has affected so many people. Just talking to journalists around the world, everyone is very excited by the prospect of a follow-up," Beecher continued.
“Watch this space. That’s all I’ll say.”
