When a Bumblebee spinoff was first announced, some fans were worried. The Transformers franchise has produced some less-than-fulfilling films in the past, they thought, what will make this one any different? Of course, that opinion did change for some folks when the first Bumblebee trailer arrived. It promised a coming-of-age adventure tale, filled with just as much retro fun as it was timeless wonder. Still, some had their doubts. Now, however, there may be a difinitive place to look to stifle all fears about the spinoff. Director Travis Knight, whose directorial debut Kubo and the Two Strings wowed audiences nationwide last year, has poured his heart into an emotional letter describing why he loves the Bumblebee movie so much.

The letter is a look into Knight's mind as he begins promotional work on the film. It's all about the type of cinema experience fans can expect, and the reasons behind the making of this movie. And at points, it's genuinely emotional. Take, for example, this portion of the letter, courtesy of the folks at ScreenRant.

Bumblebee was a humble yellow Autobot scout who took the alt form of a VW Beetle, of all things. He wasn't flashy. He wasn't striking. By Transformers standards he was small and callow and not particularly powerful. But he was the Transformer with the greatest affinity for humanity. He was the one who was most like us. He was the one who was most like me.

It's been said lately that to make a truly exceptional franchise film, you have to hire a true fan. Well, if this letter doesn't prove Travis Knight's fanship to you, you must not be reading it correctly. You can read the full text of the heartfelt letter at ScreenRant. Along with the letter, Knight also sent ScreenRant a cool, retro promotional package, of which they've posted pictures on that page. Bumblebee is set to hit theaters December 21st.

What do you think of Travis knight's letter to ScreenRant? Does it make you more excited for the movie, or do you still have some trepidations. As always, you can let us know in the comments section below. And for all your Bumblebee and Transformers franchise news, stay tooned to Toonado.
