Despite being largely complete and ready to head to theaters, Warner Bros. made the controversial decision to shelve their hybrid animated and live action flick starring Will Forte and John Cena, Coyote vs. Acme. The film, at the time, even tested well with audiences, leaving people even more confused as to why the film would get shelved so soon to a potential release. Well... besides for tax write-off purposes.
While the internet was quick to blast Warner Bros. for their decision, Forte was right there with them, stating that he did, in fact, "fu**king hate it" that the film was getting shelved.
"Look, when it comes to Hollywood business stuff, I don’t know shit about shit. Even when a movie tests very well (like ours), there’s no guarantee that it’s gonna be a hit. And at the end of the day, the people who paid for this movie can obviously do whatever they want with it."
"It doesn’t mean I have to like it (I fu**king hate it). Or agree with it. And it doesn’t mean that this movie is anything less than magnificent."
That said, earlier in the year, spark of hope, with Ketchup Entertainment stepping in and offering to buy the film and bring it to theaters. Sure enough, the film was officially saved back in March. Now, though, with the film returning to theatrical plans, Forte has addressed the film being saved, and it seems he's over the moon with joy, willing to do anything to promote it.
Stating that "words cannot describe" how he feels about the film getting rescued after the shelving, he did, however say he'd "promote the crap out of it" and jokingly even tossing the idea that he'd go to the top of Mount Everest if he was told to.
“I never thought it would happen so it just came out of nowhere and I’m so thrilled. Thank you Ketchup Entertainment, I’m so excited for people to see this movie. I’m gonna promote the crap out of it, just tell me what you want me to do and I’ll go, I’ll do whatever — go to the top of Mount Everest, I’m there.”
Now, it wasn't just Coyote vs. Acme that got shelved only to be rescued by Ketchup. Previously, the same production company rescued The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
The film follows Wile E. Coyote partnering with a lawyer played by Forte, with the goal to sue in-universe gadget maker, Acme, after failing to catch the Road Runner one too many times. The film penned by Josh Silberman, Samy Burch, and James Gunn (yes, that James Gunn). Gunn is also the film's producer alongside Chris DeFaria. We do have a bit of a wait ahead of us, with Coyote vs. Acme scheduled to head to theaters in 2026.
