It's been eight years since the last installment in the Toy Story franchise, but now it seems the long wait is finally coming to a close with Toy Story 4 debuting midway through next year.
Although the toys were originally expected to make a return to cinema screens late last year, due to behind the scenes altercations (most significantly with the departure of writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack), Pixar ultimately delayed the film.
According to Annie Potts, who is returning to the role of Bo Peep in the upcoming sequel, the film went through massive changes. “[Toy Story 4] was supposed to come out this year and then they threw out three-quarters of it and rewrote,” Potts told RadioTimes, before elaborting further:
Usually, it takes – from start to finish – two years. But because they threw most of it in the bin and started over [my time on the project has] been extended a little bit. I’ve done a lot of work on it.
They’re funny those Pixar people. They just take their time. It’s very painstaking work. If they don’t like whole sections then they just chuck it and start over again. They have that great creative liberty to do that.
At one point Potts understandably believed her role had been cut from the film entirely - or even that the project had been cancelled altogether. “I didn’t hear from them in a year and a half,” she revealed.
Thankfully though, the film managed to push through the behind the scenes altercations and will be arriving in theatres in June of 2019.
