In line with the previous instalments in the franchise,
Toy Story 4 will feature original music by, Academy Award-winning songwriter and composer, Randy Newman. The musician is responsible for such iconic songs as 'You've Got a Friend in Me,' and 'We Belong Together'. As well as writing new songs, Newman is also at the helm of the film's score.
Pixar has released one of the new songs online. This song is titled
"The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy" and was written by Newman but performed by Chris Stapleton. There will be another original song by the name of
"I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away," which will be focused on the new character of Forky.
Check out the new song below:
Having composed the film Newman has seen a cut of it in full, here's what he had to say about the upcoming sequel:
“I have great affection for the films, and it was good to be back in that world again. Important things are happening to people we love. There’s plenty of action, but there’s a lot of deeper stuff. This picture had a lot of opportunity to do things of some depth emotionally -- but not overdo it.”
Stapleton similarly had nothing but praise to say:
“To me what has made the Toy Story films hold up over time has been the strength of the stories and the songs and the writing and the characters. There’s something for people of all ages to enjoy in the world that is Toy Story. It’s a tremendous honor to get to sing a Randy Newman song in what is without question one of the most iconic animated franchises in history.”
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
Toy Story 4 is set to arrive in theatres on June 21st, 2019.
