Toy Story as a franchise has existed for essentially twenty-five years at this point. The first instalment in the animated film series introduced the now iconic characters of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and many more. These characters have featured in every
Toy Story film since.
The director of the third instalment recently took to Twitter to reveal a shocking tidbit of information about, the main character of the
Toy Story franchise, Woody. According to Unkrich, Woody has actually had a surname all along. Apparently, the plastic cowboy's full name is: Woody Pride.
It's quite the western-sounding name and quite fitting that it would be revealed during Pride Month. It's certainly interesting that this information hasn't come up before now, especially during the scenes in
Toy Story 2 in which Woody learns about his past.
According to
Buzzfeed's article about the information, Woody's last name being Pride has been secretly seeded throughout the franchise's history - most recently in some concept art for
Kingdom Hearts III (a recent video game which featured a plethora of Disney characters).
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.
Toy Story 4 is in theatres now.
