Dark Horse is expanding its Disney Princess comic line with a new three-part miniseries,
Disney The Little Mermaid. With the animated film turning 30 this year, Dark Horse will take fans back under the sea for a re-telling of this classic, unforgettable tale.
Disney The Little Mermaid will be written by Cecil Castellucci, who also wrote Dark Horse's recent
Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It sounds like the comic series will stay true to the original film, but add a new layer to the experience with Ariel's inner voice. Other than that, not much appears to be different in terms of the overall story, though it will be interesting to read her thoughts on the journey as she experiences the human world for the first time.
Ariel's fascination with the human world takes a dangerous turn when she falls in love with a human prince. Determined to be part of his world, Ariel sets off on an adventure of self-discovery and friendship. In Disney The Little Mermaid, experience the journey through Ariel's first-person perspective in this new comic retelling of the Disney classic!
Disney The Little Mermaid #1 is slated to arrive on October 16, 2019. It's written by Cecil Castelluci with artist Zulema Scotto Lavina, and colorist Piky Hamilton.
This comes on the heels of Disney
announcing Halle Bailey for the titular role in the upcoming live-action adaptation of
The Little Mermaid.
