It's been over a decade since The Incredibles graced out screens - but you'd be hard-pressed to have guessed that from looking at the Parr family today, in their upcoming sequel.
The titular family have evidently not aged during the 14 year gap; at a PR event, Heroic Hollywood acquired the why of this creative decision from director Brad Bird:
I thought about aging everybody the way everybody does, and then I thought, ‘No that sucks,’ that’s about as deep as it went. I’m not interested in a college-aged Jack-Jack, I’m just not. I’m interested in my sons growing up, but in terms of the interest for me in this movie, it stays more iconic if everyone situates themselves. I also was on the first eight seasons of The Simpsons and that’s worked out rather well for them, so I’ll stick with that.
The afformentioned Simpsons haven't aged in the shows 30-year run - so the similarities are a fair call.
What do you think about Bird's statements? Do you agree or disagree? Would you have preferred the family to have aged?
In The Incredibles 2, Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.
