The Daily Show host and comedian Trevor Noah is developing an animated feature at Paramount Animation, according to Variety. It sounds like the untitled project is still in early development as the plot -- which is reportedly an original idea from Noah -- is being kept under wraps.
However, the film is said to be "timely, poignant and comedic," with a script from Jonathan Groff (Black-ish) and Jon Pollack (Modern Family). Noah will produce via his Day Zero Productions banner, which has a first-look deal with ViacomCBS, the parent company of both Paramount and The Daily Show's broadcast network Comedy Central.
Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin are also on board as producers via Mainstay Entertainment.
Paramount Animation has a number of films currently in production, including PAW Patrol: The Movie, based on the popular CG-animated Nickelodeon series; an untitled My Little Pony movie; Rumble, a CG-animated sports comedy scheduled for release in February 2022; Under the Boardwalk to be released in 2022; and The Tiger's Apprentice, an animated adaptation of the fantasy novel of the same name due out in 2023.
Paramount Animation also produced The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, a live-action/computer-animated adventure comedy based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants. The film was originally slated for a worldwide theatrical release, but plans changed due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. It's now set to release on demand and through Paramount+ on March 4.
