Before
The Angry Birds Movie sequel debuted in theatres, it was made clear that critics are fans of the animated movie. It stands at 81% on Rotten Tomatoes — therefore making it the highest-rated movie based on a video game thus far.
A new report by
Deadline has revealed exactly how well
The Angry Birds Movie 2 performed during its opening night — financially speaking. Arriving in theatres on Tuesday night, the animated sequel apparently made $2.6 million at the worldwide box office. That's a pretty standard amount for an animated movie of this caliber to make — so overall a pretty decent amount.
On Tuesday, it fell behind the likes of
Hobbs & Shaw's $4.3 million and
The Lion King's $4.1 million. The report goes on to explain that
The Angry Birds Movie 2 should make about $16 million throughout the week. Should the film perform as expected and continue to do that well, it should have no issue making back its budget — which was only $65 million.
The flightless angry birds and the scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level in The Angry Birds Movie 2! When a new threat emerges that puts both Bird and Pig Island in danger, Red (Jason Sudeikis), Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), and Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) recruit Chuck’s sister Silver (Rachel Bloom) and team up with pigs Leonard (Bill Hader), his assistant Courtney (Awkwafina), and techpig Garry (Sterling K. Brown) to forge an unsteady truce and form an unlikely superteam to save their homes.
The Angry Birds Movie 2 is set to arrive in theatres on August 2nd, 2019.
