We were recently fortunate enough to catch up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman. These characters have come a long way since he and Peter Laird first introduced them in black and white way back in 1984, and Mutant Mayhem sets the stage for exciting new stories to be told both in theaters and streaming.
Helping to usher in that new era is a cameo from Eastman which sees him play the human who helps Splinter to his feet during Superfly's attack. In the video below, we asked the writer and artist what it meant to play such a crucial role in this story.
"You know, kudos to them. I have great appreciation and admiration for the creative team because they could have had me standing there selling a newspaper or something," he says. "But they made it a moment where, in a movie based around Splinter's issues with the humans, and for me to then be a human that helps them…it was just a beautifully poignant scene and really respectful."
"I appreciate them thinking of me to do that because it was emotional and great. I was pretty excited and very grateful."
This Stan Lee-like cameo is easy to miss on a first viewing, so we'd recommend picking up the movie on Digital in order to watch Eastman's performance in all its glory. Despite being a relatively small part, the co-creator of the awesome foursome definitely leaves a lasting impact!
