Steven Universe The Movie recently aired on Cartoon Network. It's a continuation of the Steven Universe animated series which was brought to an end with its fifth season in January.

The official Twitter account for Cartoon Network recently pointed out an Easter Egg in the animated film which makes reference to an iconic moment from a popular anime film. Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira is one of the most popular and iconic anime works ever made. It therefore makes sense that something like Steven Universe The Movie would pay homage to it.

In Akira, there's a moment in which the protagonist of the film performs an awesome drifting stunt with their motorcycle. It's this well-known imagery that can be seen in the Steven Universe film. There's a moment in which Connie emerges from a portal whilst riding a Lion. All in all, it's quite clearly a nod to the popular anime film.

As somebody pointed out in the replies to Cartoon Network's tweet, Steven Universe is far from the first animated property to pull of this homage. You can check it out below:
