We are living in the age of the reboot/sequel. Our childhoods are headed to the big screen in droves, with films like
The Incredibles 2 dominating the box office. Still, we were all a little surprised to hear that a
Space Jam sequel was headed our way. And more surprises were to follow. Not only will the sequel to the 1996 classic star LeBron James, it was announced yesterday that
Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was set to produce. As as exciting as these details are, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding the project. Which is probably why fans are looking closely into the information we do have on the film...and speculating whether there's more than meets the eye.
If you were following the SPace Jam news coming out yesterday, you've probably already seen this tweet. It's from LeBron James's company, SpringHill Entertainment, and it's announcing the involvement of Ryan Coogler. Look more closely, though, at the top. Specifically, look at the numbers above the players' names. They are, in order, 1, 23, 20, and 21. Alone, they mean nothing, but together, they could hint at a date, 01/23/2021, or
January 23rd, 2021.
Now, let's be honest. This is nothing more than fan speculation. However, that's not to say there's absolutely no worth to the theory.
ComicBook.com's
Megan Peters, who brings us this theory, explains why. Production on the film, she says, does begin in 2019. Normally, a movie taht begins production then would make it to theaters by 2020, but LeBron James is a busy guy. Could his schedule mean that it takes longer for him and the Looney Tunes to join forces on the big screen? Without confirmation form the film's production team, we can't give a difinitive answer.
But we can guess.

Space Jam headed our way? Let us know in the comments section below, or just tell us how excited you are for
