The Russian computer-animated franchise Space Dogs follows the adventures of Belka and Strelka. Both characters are female canines based on the Soviet space dogs that survived an orbital space trip, the first to do so, in 1960.
Titled simply Space Dogs, the first film in the trilogy was released back in 2010. Fans have since gotten a sequel with Space Dogs: Adventure to the Moon and even a television series companion in the form of Space Dogs Family. With such a positive reception, the show already has three seasons.
Now, Space Dogs: Tropical Adventures, the third and final installment in the trilogy has recently received a VOD release with a Blu-Ray to come on the 20th. We had the opportunity to speak with Mike Disa (Loony Tunes, Wacky Races) about the series and what differs in the third film from the first two films.
"We wanted one and two to be a little inspirational. For Space Dogs: Tropical Adventure, they were like, we want to do something on earth with aliens underwater. And I'm like, Oh yeah, let's have some fun.
So we start off in space to just establish it, so you don't have to go see the first two films. And then we'll go on a mission for the UN and it's fun; it's kind of like the abyss without all the angst."
You can hear everything Mike Disa has to say below about Space Dogs and many of his other animated projects on Literary Joe's Inner Child Podcast!
