Chris Appelhans directs the China-based animated feature Wish Dragon from Base Animation and Jackie Chan's production company, Sparkle Roll Media.  The voice cast for the original feature film includes Chan, Fresh Off the Boat star Constance Wu, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Will Yun Lee, Nico Santos, Jimmy Wong, and Bobby Lee.  John Cho and Jimmy O. Yang are also close to boarding the project pending final contract negotiations.

The film is described as a modern version of the classic folktale, 1001 Nights. The film is aiming for a 2019 release date.

Earlier this year, Sony Pictures Animation distributed Peter Rabbit, boarding that film while it was similarily already far along in its development. To date, it has grossed almost $300 M USD worldwide from an estimated production budget of only $50 M USD.
