Prior to the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie's recent release, Paramount Pictures were pumping out TV spot after TV spot in promotion of their upcoming video game movie. Back in December, one was published that featured a reference to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. This sparked a nice back-and-forth on Twitter in which the actor mentioned that he's actually a fan of
Sonic the Hedgehog.
The live-action movie's director then responded to Johnson's tweet with an offer for him to make a cameo appearance —

However, that doesn't mean he hasn't been in talks with director Jeff Fowler. Neil McDonough, the actor who played Major Bennington A.K.A. "Major Nobody Cares," in the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie recently suggested that Johnson is already in talks to feature in the sequel (via
Gamefragger).
"What I saw in the trailer, the first trailer, I thought it was fine," McDonough said at FAN EXPO Vancouver.
"But what I saw in the movie was amazing." The actor went on;
"I’m looking forward to part two. Literally, part two, I’ve already heard rumblings that The Rock is going to be [in it]. The Rock is in part two of everything, by the way."
Perhaps Johnson is in talks to serve as the voice of Knuckles after all. Professional art director Raf Grassetti recently shared some artwork which depicts what the fan-favourite character would look like in the style of the video game movie —

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
