Since January 2019, Raf Grassetti has been sharing incredible pieces of artwork that depict realistic versions of classic video game characters. Grassetti is a professional art director best known for working on 2018's acclaimed
God of War video game.
An example of his realistic redesigns would be that of Star Fox. The artist shared that piece in January and even caught the attention of
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta —
find out more on that here.
More recently, Grassetti has shared awesome realistic takes on Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prowler, and Knuckles the Echidna (via
Gamefragger). This is, of course, in light of the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie that recently arrived in theatres. Grassetti notes that it's the movie that inspired him to take on the characters.
Considering how similar his realistic take on
Sonic the Hedgehog is to that of the live-action movie, you would think that his artwork of Knuckles and Tails will be representative of how they will appear — perhaps in a sequel to the video game movie. Here's hoping. Check out the artwork for yourself below (via

Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
