Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to arrive in theaters on April 8th, 2022. We got our very first official trailer for the upcoming video game sequel just a couple of days ago — as you can see here. Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey return as the titular speedster and Dr. Robotnik respectively, among others.

The sequel will also introduce new characters in the form of Knuckles the Echidna and Miles "Tails" Prowler voiced by Idris Elba and Colleen O'Shaughnessey respectively. But they might not be the only furry speedsters in the film as it turns out.

Sonic the Hedgehog franchise fans have noticed that the aforementioned, new trailer features an appearance of G.U.N. which is an organisation tied to Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow is a dark clone of Sonic that his creator, Gerald Robotnik, claims to be the ultimate life form. Gerald Robotnik is actually the grandfather of Ivo Robotnik who is Jim Carrey's character in the film.

Naturally, this detail has many convinced that the Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe is heading towards Shadow. They're laying the groundwork by introducing G.U.N. and perhaps the dark hedgehog himself might even be in a post-credits scene as to set up Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
