As LeBron James
gears up to star in a reboot of the 1996 live-action/animated sports comedy hybrid film
Space Jam, skateboard legend Tony Hawk recently revealed that he, too, was at one time pitched to star in a film with the Looney Tunes cartoon characters
Taking to social media, the retired professional skateboarder revealed that Warner Bros. had requested a meeting with Hawk back in 2003 for a film tentatively titled "
Skate Jam" - presumably a skateboarding-themed movie inspired by
Space Jam, which starred basketball star Michael Jordan.
Unfortunately, we don't have details for what the
Space Jam sequel would've consisted of as it was scrapped following the box office bomb that was
Looney Tunes: Back in Action. The film, which starred Brenand Fraser and Steve Martin, along with the Looney Tunes, grossed just $68.5 million worldwide on an $80 million budget.
Warner Bros. will attempt to revive the Looney Tunes in a more modernized reboot of
Space Jam, which will star LeBron James, who many consider to be one of the best NBA basketball players ever. James constantly draws comparisons to Michael Jordan on the court, so it's fitting that he will do the same on the big screen.
The
Space Jam reboot doesn't yet have a release date, but production is expected to begin in 2019 during the NBA off-season. Pending its box office performance, perhaps Warner Bros. will consider delving into other professional sports.
