Originally, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway was set to arrive in theatres on February 7th, 2020. The sequel to 2018's Peter Rabbit then gave up that spot in favour of April 3rd, 2020 — a release date around Easter. However, then it was delayed yet again on account of the Coronavirus pandemic to August 7th, 2020 — more on that here.
Evidently, that wasn't the end of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway's delays. Sony recently announced a release schedule for their upcoming movies (via Variety) — which features the likes of Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Morbius, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Uncharted. All of their films each now hold a 2021 release date.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is now set to arrive in theatres on January 15th, 2021. That's almost a whole year separated from its original release date — but not quite a whole year so it's not quite as significant as that of Minions: The Rise of Gru.
What with there still being a while until January 2021 and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway having already been subjected to many a delay; who's to say it won't be hit with yet another release date change. Perhaps Sony will end up getting their desired Easter release after all — only it being the Easter of 2021.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway will see James Corden reprise the voice role of the titular rascal as well as Margot Robbie and Elizabeth Debicki as Flopsy and Mopsy — while Daisy Ridley's status as Cottontail is currently unconfirmed. The cast also includes the likes of Domhnall Gleeson, Rose Byrne, and David Oyelowo. Will Gluck serves as director, producer, and writer.
