The Sonic the Hedgehog movie debuted back in February 2020 and fared well both monetarily and critically, especially considering how movies based on video games are typically received. Paramount Pictures officially greenlit a sequel in May 2020.
James Marsden, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and Ben Schwartz as the titular hedgehog are expected to return. Additionally, it seems the sequel will feature Colleen O'Shaughnessey as the voice of Tails in a more substantial role than they had in the prior instalment as well as Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles the Echidna.
At the moment, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to release on April 8th, 2022. Nothing official is yet to be stated online beyond Elba's casting, though set pictures featuring the heroic trio of characters have surfaced online. Regardless, it seems the first official trailer for the video game movie will be dropping within the coming days (via Gamefragger).
Paramount Pictures seems to have recently teased in a YouTube comment that the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer will be dropping on Thanksgiving, that being November 25th. Paramount Pictures simply replied to somebody requested a trailer tease with "Happy Thanksgiving!" Naturally, though, take this with a grain of salt as to avoid being disappointed should the trailer not drop.
