Directed by Sergio Pablos (
Despicable Me),
Klaus is an original animated film that's now available to stream on Netflix — as of today (November 15th). It's a Christmas movie which essentially tells a grounded origin story for Santa Claus.
The film follows a failed postal trainee named Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) who is stationed on a frozen island above the Arctic Circle — which is considered to be the unhappiest place on Earth. Locals are unlikely to exchange words let alone letters. As Jesper's about to give up, he finds an ally in local teacher Alva (Rashida Jones), and discovers Klaus (J.K. Simmons).
Klaus is a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys. The unlikely friendships return happiness to Smeerensburg, forging a new legacy of generous neighbors, magical lore and stockings hung by the chimney with care. As well as those mentioned above, the cast also includes Joan Cusack, Will Sasso and Norm Macdonald.
