Earlier this month, Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for the upcoming Barbie movie. While Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are the stars of the film, they've got a star-studded cast joining them as other variants of Barbie and Ken.
Released alongside the trailer was a series of individual posters highlighting the supporting cast. Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, and Helen Mirren were among the actors featured in the character posters.
But there was one actor missing from the list. Or maybe we just couldn't see him — John Cena.
John Cena's role in the film was confirmed via the new trailer and while we didn't actually see him on screen, his name was included in the lengthy cast list. So who is the 45-year-old WWE superstar and actor playing in the film?
Well, it hasn't actually been confirmed yet, but a report from The Sun seems to shed some light on his role. According to the publication, Cena will be playing the love interest of Dua Lipa's mermaid Barbie. Does this mean John Cena will be playing some sort of Ken Merman? He certainly has the physique to pull it off. And given his comedic ability, I'm sure he will be a perfect fit for whatever the role may call for.
Shortly after the Barbie movie trailer dropped, Cena took to Instagram to share his own character poster for the film. Check it out below.
This is clearly a play on John Cena's "You Can't See Me" catchphrase from his wrestling days which has since grown into a hilarious internet meme. We don't know if or when John Cena's character will be revealed, but a part of me hopes Warner bros. keeps it a secret until the Barbie movie releases.
Thankfully, the wait isn't too much longer. Fans will visit Barbie Land when Barbie hits theaters on July 21.
