BARBIE Trailer Takes Us To The Colorful, Crazy World Of Barbie Land With Margot Robbie And An All-Star Cast

While Barbie has starred in a number of animated movies over the years (the iconic doll and her beau, Ken, even played a role in the Toy Story franchise), the upcoming live-action effort from Warner Bros. and Mattel promises to put a very different spin on the property.

After initially eyeing Amy Schumer to play the title character, the studio turned to Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad) to deliver her take on one of the world's most iconic toys. Greta Gerwig (Little Women) was already attached to direct the movie, of course, and co-wrote the project with her husband Noah Baumbach.

Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) has been cast as (one) Ken, while Will Ferrell (Anchorman) surprised everyone when he signed up to play the CEO of a toy company that's widely believed to be a spin on Mattel.

Other cast members include Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa and Helen Mirren, all of whom were among those featured on a series of character posters earlier today.

Now, we have a trailer and this...well, it's freakin' insane.

We don't know what we were expecting from Barbie, but this trip to Barbie Land is full of colour, craziness, and sexual innuendos. Honestly, this looks like it could be one of the year's best movies and the more we see, the more excited we get.

"To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place," reads the brief new synopsis. "Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken."

Barbie will arrive in theaters on July 21, later this year.
