Just yesterday came reports that Harry Styles is up for the role of Prince Eric in Disney's upcoming remake of The Little Mermaid. Now, even more reports have emerged which claim that, Academy Award-winning actor, Javier Bardem is up for the role of King Triton.

Already, the cast of the upcoming, live-action remake consists of Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Flounder and Scuttle respetively, as well as Halle Bailey as the the titular character of Ariel. Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters) is rumoured to be in talks for the role of Ursula.

Rob Marshall is attached to direct the remake of The Little Mermaid and Lin-Manuel Miranda will write songs for the film alongside legendary songwriter Alan Menken.

With Ariel's race being changed, many assumed that this would mean King Triton's would be to. However, with Bardem not being black, that's evidently not the case. Sorry Terry Crews.

Bardem is best known for his roles in Skyfall and No Country for Old Men - the latter being the film which he won an Oscar for. Additionally, he's set to star in Denis Villeneuve's upcoming Dune adaptation.
