In-Development Pixar Project To Serve As BAO Director Domee Shi's Feature-Length Directorial Debut

Domee Shi, director of Incredibles 2's short Bao, has confirmed that she's working with Pixar on a 90-minute project - that will serve as her feature-length directorial debut.

Domee Shi already made history as the first female director to helm a Pixar short - that being Bao, which was attached to Incredibles 2 - and in that vein she'll continue as she'll soon become the first female director to helm a feature-length project for the studio.

Shi recently had an interview with Deadline in which she revealed that she's collaborating with the studio on a 90-minute project: “We’re just developing the story for it right now. It’s super early on, but I’m really excited to play in this new 90-minute film format.” Shi also spoke of the possibility of directing a feature-length project back in June.

Of Pixar's nineteen feature films, Brave was the only one to be directed by a woman. However, she was fired midway through production. Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter was removed from duty in Summer following sexual assault allegations and claims that female creatives were actively shut out. Therefore Domee Shi will hopefully and likely pave the way for more female directors in the future.

What do you think of Shi directing a feature-length Pixar film? What did you think of her short Bao?
