Frozen 2's opening night box office numbers are in and, including
Thursday night's previews, the highly anticipated sequel currently sits at $42.4 million. The latest figure further lowers domestic box office projections from
the previous $130M-$140M down to $117M-$130M.
In either case,
Frozen 2 would set the record for best opening for an animated film during the month of November. The previous record-holder for best three-day animated pic belonged to Illumination/Universal's
The Grinch, which opened last year with $67.5M.
2013's
Frozen currently holds the best five-day record with $93.6 million, but had the luxury of opening during the extended Thanksgiving weekend.
Frozen 2 has already helped propel Disney past the $3 billion domestic box office mark for 2019 and should continue to have legs throughout the holiday season. The sequel is
officially certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
