The long-awaited sequel to 2013's
Frozen has finally arrived.
Frozen 2 is in theatres now!
The highly anticipated sequel sees Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff return as Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff respectively. As for the story of the sequel, the crew venture into an enchanted forest to discover the origins of Elsa's wintery abilities — find out more by checking out the below trailer.
Though originally predicted to earn upwards of $150 million from its opening weekend alone,
Frozen 2 is set for a $130-140 million opening weekend at the box office. Speaking of box office numbers (via
Variety); the Disney sequel opened on Thursday night and managed to earn a whopping $8.5 million — in one night alone and only taking into account North America theatres.
That's impressive and certainly indicative of coming success. Back in 2013, the first
Frozen animated film made $93 million during its opening weekend at Thanksgiving — which spanned five days. It seems as if the sequel is going to clear that post by a mile — here's hoping! Stay tuned to Toonado for the coming days to find out how the sequel will fair against the original.
Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she'll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough.
Frozen 2 is set to arrive in theatres on November 22nd, 2019.
