A recent report by
Deadline has revealed that, now they've has acquired the rights to many of Fox's intellectual properties, Disney are making an animated
Flash Gordon feature film.
The most well-known work of the
Flash Gordon franchise was the 1980 film which starred Sam Jones and Max Von Sydow. There have been multiple attempts to bring the franchise back to the big screen since, two of which involved Matthew Vaughn and Julius Avery, but they evidently never came to fruition.
Disney has got Taika Waititi on the job to write and direct the new, animated version. Waititi's most well-known works include
Thor Ragnarok and
Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The director was set to direct a stop-motion film for Netflix named
Bubbles - which would've told to story of Michael Jackson's life through the eyes of his pet monkey. That project has been dissolved on account of recent allegations made about Jackson.
Waititi will direct a live-action adaptation of the popular anime by the name of
Akira as well as
Jojo Rabbit - which is a comedy set in Nazi Germany. Additionally, he will star in a video-game movie by the name of
Free Guy alongside Ryan Reynolds. Quite the busy man.
