The original, animated version of
Aladdin debuted in theatres back in 1992. Following that, two animated sequels were released — though, not in theatres. There are
currently talks of a sequel to Disney's recent, live-action remake of
Aladdin.
You may have thought that said sequel would follow the same story as the original
Aladdin sequels — those being
The Return of Jafar and
Aladdin and the King of Thieves. Well, that apparently isn't the case according to one of the producers of the live-action Aladdin remake.
Dan Lin recently told
Comicbook.com that, should the live-action
Aladdin sequel come to fruition, it would feature a new story. However, Lin did mentioned that they would still take inspiration from all that's come before. So, don't be surprised if the sequel is somewhat similar to the original, animated sequels.
"If I told you the fans would go crazy. It's just too early for me to reveal. But just know that we're looking at a lot of different source material and it's not going to be based on one singular source, but we're going to take the best of everything that's been done before and create something fresh and new," said Lin.
A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
