Though it's been twelve years since
Ratatouille made its debut, it's managed to pop up in the news twice as of late. Firstly, the star of the film showed support from a Ratatouille animated series being put together for Disney+ —
you can find out more on that here. Now, the film's director has taken to Twitter to quash a popular fan theory about the acclaimed animated movie.
This fan theory has essentially been doing the rounds since the film's release. It speculates that Remy learned to cook by watching Ego's mother. Hence why, upon tasting Remy's meal during a memorable scene near the end of the film, Ego is struck with a bout of nostalgia. The theory is entirely wrapped around some minor details that can be spotted in the background of some scenes.
"In ‘Ratatouille’ (2007), When Anton tastes Remy's ratatouille, he's reminded of his mother's cooking. There's a few hidden details that suggest Remy grew up in Anton's mother's house, learning to cook by watching Anton's mother," reads the tweet which the director directly responded to.
Unfortunately, Bird tweeted that the details in question were only included as such because Pixar was on a tight schedule at the time and not because he and the crew had some grand idea in mind. You can check out the director's tweet (

"Well, I’d love to confirm that we were ultra-deep thinkers and that there was a narrative behind the narrative, but... When I took over the film we had a hellacious deadline and only 2 of the films many sets were built. Truth is we were just trying to reuse props where we could."
