Disney's
Aladdin remake has arrived in theatres. As you'd expect, the live-action movie is a retelling on the 1992 animated classic of the same name. While the original is unanimously thought to be a great time, critics and audiences appear to disagree about the new version.
Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer (via
Comicbook.com) currently sits at 60% in regards to the percentage of verified critics who reviewed the
Aladdin remake positively. The "Audience Score," however rates the film much higher. 91% of reviews from unverified critics are positive, this is much more similar to the original film's Tomatometer rating - that being 94%.
It seems that most reviews from verified critics place particular emphasis on the live-action film being subpar to the original, whereas audience reviews enjoy the film as a fun, Disney adventure. The audience reviews make mention of the awesome soundtrack and talented cast: Mena Masoud, Will Smith, and specifically Naomi Scott.
The stark difference between the Tomatometer and Audience Score has created somewhat of a campaign to get the word out that
Aladdin isn't all that bad and that you should consider heading out to theatres to see it.
