Star Wars: The Clone Wars — The Final Season is nearing its end. The penultimate episode of the seventh season and the show as a whole will debut on Disney+ this Friday — more on that here — before the finale on May 4th (Star Wars Day).
However, before we can get all excited for the impending end; let's rewind the clock back to the previous episode. Episode 10 "The Phantom Apprentice" saw Ahsoka Tano go head to head with Maul. Their clash rounded out the episode and was frankly one of the best lightsaber fights in the franchise.
While some credit for the awesome fight scene is due to voice actors Ashley Eckstein and Sam Witwer for respectively serving as the voices of Ahsoka and Maul; most of the credit for the stunning clash should go to stunt performers Ray Park and Lauren Mary Kim who performed the motion-capture for the characters.
Park is known for portraying Maul in live-action, both back in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Well, executive producer Dave Filoni explains in this video that they brought Park in on Star Wars: The Clone Wars so that he could choreograph the fight itself. That's right; he didn't only perform the fight but also choreographed it.
The official Star Wars YouTube channel has released an awesome and interesting, new behind-the-scenes featurette which is all about the craftsmanship behind Ahsoka and Maul's epic duel. You can check it out below (via Star Wars). A similar behind-the-scenes video about Episode 10 "The Phantom Apprentice" was also recently released — check that out here.
