Earlier this year, Netflix shared the first teaser for Guillermo Del Toro's stop-motion musical adaptation of Pinocchio. But this won't be the only version of the classic Italian tale we get this year. Disney is also releasing its own live-action version of Pinocchio, which is coming to Disney+ this September.
Disney's live-action film stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio and Tom Hanks as Geppetto and today we got our first look at both characters in the film. While it's just a single image, it's clear that Disney is sticking to a similar appearance as the original 1940's animated film.
For those who aren't familiar with the source material and haven't seen Disney's animated film, Pinocchio is the story of a wooden puppet named Pinocchio who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Guiding him on this adventure and acting as his "conscience" is the virtuous Jiminy Cricket, who will be voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Keegan-Michael Key is also starring in the film as "Honest" John Worthington Foulfellow, a deceptive red fox who cons Pinocchio.
Pinocchio will be release on Disney+ this September. Meanwhile, those looking forward to Guillermo Del Toro's take on the tale can look forward to his version coming to Netflix this December.
