With the world having more than hundresd of cultures and traditions, it can feel a bit daunting to try to learn as many as one can and feel more connected to the people of the world as a whole. Thankfully, companies like Disney always find creative ways to not only educate but also to have fun while they are learning.
Mira, Royal Detective, is one such opportunity as it follows a young girl named Mira, who solves mysteries in a fictional Indian city. The show has been airing on Disney Jr. and has offered a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Hindu culture. One such example is a new episode of the series that involves Mira solving a mystery during the Diwali festival.
Diwali is a festival of light that is celebrated on the darkest day of the year. It is typically celebrated for five days and is enjoyed around the month of November. The cast and crew saw an opportunity to help young audiences learn more about the holiday and decided to release two videos, one with the cast explaining their experiences and the other with the show's dance choreographer, Nakul Dev Mahajan, who describes some fun dances that even include some of Mira's favorites.
The holiday is not only beautiful, but it's a fantastic learning experience for anyone who hasn't heard of it before. Make sure to check out the videos and tell us what you learned about the festival in the comments below!
Set in a fictional kingdom called Jalpur which resembles a late 19th century India, the series follows the brave and resourceful girl Mira, a commoner who is appointed to the role of royal detective by the queen and travels throughout her kingdom to help royals and commoners alike.
