Kristen Bell might be receiving a call from some Disney execs in the coming days. While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actress announced "with zero authority" Frozen 3.
Bell, who voices Anna, Queen of Arendelle, was asked by Fallon if she could reveal any plans for a third installment in the Walt Disney Animation Studios' hit franchise. Her response has drummed up all sorts of hype.
"I would… like to officially announce, with zero authority, Frozen 3," Bell began. The announcement was met with thunderous applause by the audience who may not have heard the caveat.
"Please bear in mind I did say 'zero authority' because I can't do that. I can't do that. No, I'm not in charge," she clarified.
Although Bell was clear that she can't actually officially annouce a new Frozen, the simple fact that she even made such a tease has led some to believe something is in the works. Fallon pressed Bell about the possibility of a Frozen 3 and Bell didn't exactly shut it down. In fact, it sounds like she's all for it.
"Well, you know, I'm... I'll keep it mysterious, but I know Idina [Menzel, who voices Anna's sister, Elsa] recently said she would do it and I feel like if we're all in, like, what are we waiting for? Let's do it," Bell offered.
The original Frozen was first released in 2013 and introduced families to the magical kingdom of Arendelle. The film was a massive hit for Disney, earning 1.28 billion in the worldwide box office, overtaking Toy Story 3 to become the highest-grossing animated film of all-time until it was overtaken by 2019's The Lion King remake.
Its sequel, Frozen 2, came out in 2019. And while it didn't necessarily have the same impact as the first film, it did earn $1.45 billion worldwide. It had the highest-grossing worldwide opening of all-time for an animated film and went on to become the second-highest grossing animated film ever (behind The Lion King remake).
Although nothing official has been announced by Disney, the fact that Bell and Menzel are willing and eager to return to Arendelle is a good sign for the potential of Frozen 3. Of course, there's always the concern of franchise fatigue for studios. Frozen 2 ended on a heartwarming note, but if the writers can come up with another impactful and interesting adventure for the two sisters then I'm sure fans would love for a third installment. I also can't imagine this line of questioning from Fallon would've been approved by Bell's PR reps if something wasn't in the pipeline.
