Walt Disney Animation Studios might finally be ready to talk about Bruno!

While fielding questions from the press ahead of the premiere of his Broadway show, Buena Vista Social Club, actor John Leguizamo let it be known that Disney is currently working on some kind of continuation of the  2021 animated musical, Encanto.

"I'm also waiting for an Encanto 2 when all we do is talk about Bruno," began the Bruno voice actor. He continued, "I'm calling them every day saying 'When is No. 2 coming?' They're trying to come up with the storyline. They're working on it."

While this is far from official confirmation, it sounds as if Disney is 'unofficially', working on a sequel.

We'll rule out the possibility of a Disney+ TV series as the streamer recently announced that Walt Disney Animation would no longer be producing any original long-form content for the streaming platform.

The studio cited mounting production costs as the reason behind the decision.

A casualty of this decision was a previously announced Princess Tiana TV series, that was first announced back in 2020.

This trend aligns with previous statements from Pixar CEO Jim Morris, who stated that Pixar and Disney Animation Studios films have higher budgets, and thus a harder time turning a profit because they're one of the last studios to fully animate their projects using American animators, as opposed to using foreign studios and freelancers.

Released at the tail-end of the COVID-19 pandemic, Encanto had a 30-day theatrical run when it premiered on November 24, 2021, before hitting Disney+ on December 24.

Though it only grossed $256.8 million at the worldwide box office, the film was a smash hit on Disney+, with many of its songs going viral. With only 7 days before 2021 ended, Nielsen estimated that Encanto was the most-watched film of the year.

The film also took home Best Score Soundtrack, Best Compilation Soundtrack, and Best Song ("We Don't Talk About Bruno") at the  65th Annual Grammy Awards. It also received several Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations.

Encanto Official Synopsis: Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope. Celebrate with Miranda, Beatriz and the rest of the “Encanto” family streaming now on Disney+.
