Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a new trailer and poster for its upcoming magical coming-of-age adventure, Hexed, while also announcing several additional cast members.
First announced back in 2025, Hexed looks quite different than what was originally pitched audiences. The original animated film stars Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones as Billie and Alice, a mother-daughter duo whose lives are turned upside down when Billie accidentally discovers she has magical powers and finds herself transported to a world of witches. The original announcement described a teenage boy and his mother, rather than the mother-daughter duo featured in the final film.
The new trailer gives us our best look yet at the magical world of Hexe, while offering a better idea of the adventure awaiting Billie and her mother.
"In Disney's Hexed, an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl named Billie Doe (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) discovers secret magical abilities which, once unleashed, hurtle her out of suburbia and into a spectacle-filled journey through a vast witch realm called Hexe," the official synopsis reads. "Forced to team up with her cautious mother, Alice (voiced by Rashida Jones), they uncover family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever."
Disney also revealed that Henry Winkler and Dan Stevens have joined the voice cast. Winkler will play Nigel, an all-knowing but easily frightened bird, while Stevens voices Hieronymous, the self-important Grand Councillor to Queen Celeste.
The two join an already impressive cast that includes Jodie Foster as the villainous Queen Celeste, Walton Goggins as a three-eyed magical cat named Beef Roger Crummchuk, Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill, and Stephen Fry as Elias Quire. The film will also feature appearances from Alan Tudyk, Kathy Najimy, Wayne Knight, Randall Park, and several others.
While Disney continues to find enormous success with established franchises, its original animated movies have had a much more difficult time at the box office in recent years.
Films like Strange World and Wish struggled to attract audiences, while Pixar's Elio became another box-office disappointment despite generally positive reviews. There have been some brighter spots, though. While Elemental got off to a slow start, it did recover from its disappointing opening weekend to earn nearly $500 million worldwide, proving that original animated stories can still find an audience.
With star-studded voice cast, a fantasy setting, and a story centered on the relationship between a mother and daughter, Hexed has all the ingredients to become the next big animated hit for Disney. It's due out in theaters on November 25.
Hexed is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, and co-directed by Josie Trinidad. It's written by Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller.
